The ability to read and write critically is an ability to be honed by anyone who desires success in academia and/or thoughtfulness of mind. This course aims to foster your awareness of and competence in the reading and writing of English as able to serve you across all academic disciplines and prepare you as better critical thinkers. Critical reading is characterized by an identification of the author's main point or claim, a recognition of how it is supported by evidence, an analysis and evaluation of explicit or implicit arguments, and an exploration of where bad reasoning and beliefs might come from. Critical writing integrates the reading techniques and demands a lucid and logical organization of thoughts supplemented by sound evidence and effective rhetoric. The approach to fulfilling this course's objective is twofold: (1) we read, analyze, and critique a variety of texts ranging from artificial intelligence to ethics; and (2) you reinforce the learned contents through writing and presenting collaboratively with your teammates.

By the end of this course, you should be able to:
(1) critically analyze and evaluate a variety of texts while identifying the thinking patterns you are used to in your life and in the way you see the world;
(2) synthesize your thinking incorporating multiple points of view, and defend your position using well-built arguments; and
(3) write and present a critical analysis on a certain issue
